pen palsprivacy policy
last updated: 30 october 2026
pen pals is made by nounish operations pty ltd, 15-17 aberdeen rd, prahran vic
3181, australia.
the short version
- we keep only what you need to draw together.
- no ads, no tracking, no ai training on your drawings, and we never sell
your information.
- you can delete your account and your drawings at any time.
what we keep, and why
- your email, to sign you in
- your name, ink colour and avatar, so friends know it's you
- your drawings, their names and photos you add, because that's the app
- your pals: who you've added, and the pal requests and invites between you
- your device's notification address, if you turn notifications on, so we
can tell you about invites and pal requests. we delete it when you sign out or
delete your account
- an email address you invite to be pals, kept for up to 30 days to send
that one invite. if they ask us to stop, we remember that so we never email
them again
- an email address a drawing's owner invites, kept while that invite stands so
the link works
- reports and blocks, to keep people safe
- how you heard about us and whether you want news, if you signed up on
our website
- basic server records, like ip addresses, to keep pen pals running and
stop abuse
we don't keep chat. messages go straight to the people in the drawing at the
time and aren't saved, by us or on your device. we don't record voice chat
either. the app only uses your camera, microphone or photo
library when you tap to.
who sees your drawings
the people in your drawing. anyone with the link can join a public drawing; a
private drawing needs an invite.
your pals can see when you're drawing and which drawing you're on, unless you
switch that off. we don't save it.
who helps us run it
a few companies host pen pals, send our emails and keep our backups. they only
use your information to do that job for us, and it may be stored outside
australia, including in the united states.
deleting your account
go to account → delete account. we delete your email, name, avatar, and the
drawings only you worked on. a drawing you own that friends drew on passes to
one of them, so their work is safe. your lines in other people's drawings stay
there, without your name.
deleting your account also removes your pals, your requests and invites, and
your notification addresses.
our encrypted backups, which only we can open, may hold a copy until they're
replaced. we never use them to bring back a deleted account.
kids
pen pals is made for families. if you're under 13, a parent or guardian sets up
your account using their own email.
questions
email penpals@nounish.com to ask what we hold, fix it, or delete it. if you're
not happy with our answer, you can complain to the office of the australian
information commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
if we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app
first.
